John J. Piazza has been in the construction industry since 1973.
Piazza Construction, Inc. is
located in Mt. Vernon, Washington at 224 Stewart Road, Suite 230 in an 18,000
sq. ft. office, warehouse complex built and owned by the Piazza’s. The company
employ’s 10 full time employees depending on the workload, and is a fully
computerized company with the latest equipment.
Piazza Construction, Inc., a
Design/Build Company, has built many commercial projects in Skagit County. The
Market Street Office/Warehouse Complex, located on Market Street in Mt. Vernon
was awarded Skagit Island Counties Association’s Project of the year Award for
Area Enhancement. $AVE ON $TORAGE ($0$) is a 75,650 sq. ft. 824 mini storage
facility in Mt. Vernon, and Parkside Manor is a 35,000 sq. ft. assisted care
facility in Sedro Woolley. Parkside received the Skagit County Multi-Family
Project of the Year. The George Hopper Business Center, built and owned by John
and Dottie Piazza, is a 20,000 sq. ft. office building in Burlington. This
project received the Commercial Project of the year. The La Conner Retirement
Inn is a 49,4000 sq. ft. Retirement Inn with 7 cottage units across the street.
The La Conner Retirement Inn won Project of the year. The Oak Harbor Retirement
Community is 130 units, 101,000 sq. ft. and offers both Assisted and Alzheimer’s
care and also won Project of the Year.
John has built many one of a kind custom homes and custom remodels within the
Skagit, Island, and Whatcom counties. His emphasis on quality work and unending
service to his clients has carried him through some tough times in the building
industry. Since 1973, recognizing that in order to maintain leadership in the
custom home market, a successful builder must has quality building sites and
John turned to land development. Country Club Meadows, Divisions 1 and 2, is an
upscale plat that backs up to the Skagit Golf and Country Club. In character
with his reputation for quality custom home building, emphasis has been placed
on the development of small manageable plats that create a neighborhood theme.
Piazza Construction, Inc. has
completed a development of 41 lots in Sedro-Woolley. In 2000, PIAZZA
CONSTRUCTION, INC. developed a 100 lot plat of condos and lots in Anacortes,
called Sunset Cove Estates featuring water-front lots. Currently, PIAZZA
CONSTRUCTION, INC. is working on a 16 Lot Development in Mt. Vernon, called
Parkwood Creek.
PIAZZA CONSTRUCTION, INC. is most known for building custom homes on the Skagit
Golf and Country Club. They also
built several homes in the Eaglemont Golf and Country Club development in Mt.
Vernon. Many of John’s designs have received the prestigious Skagit Island
Builder’s Association (SICBA) Project of the Year award for Building Design,
Craftsmanship, and Area Enhancement. PIAZZA CONSTRUCTION, INC. also built homes
in the Cedar Ridge Estates development in South Mt. Vernon. In 2001, PIAZZA
CONSTRUCTION, INC. won Project of the Year for a home they built in Deception
Pass Estates in Anacortes and won again for a home they built on Camano Island
in 2003.
John also built, and is a partner in the Heritage Place Apartments in
Burlington. The Heritage Place Apartments is a 204 unit complex and offers it’s
tenants a number of amenities including a pool, tennis court, weight room, hot
tub, and community building. The Skagit and Island Builders Association
recognized this project as the Best Multi-Family Project of the Year.
This Project, as well as, the Maple Park Apartments, have a theme Called
the “Country Club” or “Apartment Living.”
Piazza built the 184 unit Maple Park Apartment complex in Bellingham and remains
a partner in this project. The landscaping and grounds help promote it’s garden
theme. Maple Park has such amenities as a pool, hot tub, weight room, community
building, gas barbeques, and playground equipment for it’s tenants. The Skagit
and Island Builders Association also recognized this project as the Best
Multi-Family Project of the Year.
PIAZZA CONSTRUCTION, INC. prides itself on their quality also evident in smaller
multi-family projects such as a 16-plex unit in Burlington, an 8-plex in Mt.
Vernon as well as other 4-plexes and duplexes. PIAZZA CONSTRUCTION, INC. is
currently building 4 triplexes in the Sedro Woolley.
PIAZZA CONSTRUCTION, INC. was established in 1973, It bids and builds projects
not only on a turn-key basis but also as a joint venture partner with
prospective clients as the need arises. Supervisors and Managers within the
corporation have been with John for over 26 years, providing a strong and
cohesive management team. John headed this team as corporate President until
January 2001 when he turned this responsibility over to his son John Piazza Jr.
Jr. was the key onsite contractor for the Oak Harbor Retirement Community,
100,000 sq ft. complex on 6 acres of land. John Jr. has also run the Wildflower
Development in Sedro Woolley. This is a 61 cottage home development.
Design Consultants, Inc. is owned by John
and Dottie Piazza and is currently managed by Brett Jackson. Brett has over 20
years experience in design and space planning and is active in all of
Piazza Construction, Inc.'s
projects. Brett and his staff also do design and space planning work for
numerous other local builders and owners. This company offers a full line of
expertise in the design of custom homes, retail and commercial space, and
multi-family construction.
In 1981, John and Dottie established Coldwell Banker Piazza Realty, Inc. This
office was very active in residential and commercial project in the area. They
sold the company in 2002 and re-opened as Piazza Realty and Property Management.
To help round out the corporate staff, John’s wife, Dottie, takes an active part
in all three corporations as Secretary/Treasurer. Dottie currently has an active
real estate license and heads the Property Management division of the company
(currently the largest Management Company in Skagit County). The 20,000 sq. ft.
office/warehouse complex on Stewart Road, the 15,000 sq. ft. office/warehouse
complex on Market Street and the 85,650 sq. ft. $O$ Mini Storage complex in Mt.
Vernon, as well as numerous other residential and commercial units in Skagit
County. Dottie has been State Director for BIAW (Building Industry Association
of Washington) to NAHB and has received her 20 year status as a life Senior
Director for NAHB. She was Treasurer in 1982,1983, 1995, and 1996 for Skagit
Island Counties Builders Association. Dottie is on the Board of Directors, as
Vice President for the Northwest Rental Owners Association. In January of 1984,
the Board of Realtors voted her Skagit County Citizen of the Year. Dottie was
also the 1990 President of SICBA and in 2002 was the first woman President of
BIAW. BIAW is a 54 year old association. Dottie currently sits on the Board of
Directors for SICBA, Skagit Hospice, BIAW, Burlington Rotary, NAHB, and is a
trustee for the NAHB Institute and was inducted in to the BIAW Hall of Fame in
2003.
John’s involvement in the politics of the building industry began with the
establishment of the Skagit Island Counties Builder’s Association (SICBA) in the
mid 1970’s. He was a driving force in the establishment of the organization,
which is affiliated with the State Building Industry Association of Washington
(BIAW). SICBA has been recognized by the National Association of Homebuilders
(NAHB) for it’s achievements in the building industry. John is a past President
of SICBA in 1987, 1983 and 1987 his peers named him Builder of the Year. John
was inducted into the BIAW Hall of Fame in 1996 and Dottie received the 1996
Builder of the Year award by BIAW. John served as President of the BIAW in 1992.
He currently serves on the Executive Committee and is a trustee and Vice
Chairman for the Health Insurance Program as well as the Return on Industrial
Insurance Program for BIAW. John was elected to serve as the 1996 and
1997 Vice President of Area 15 for the NAHB.
John’s duties were top oversee five states for NAHB (Oregon, Washington,
Idaho, Montana and Alaska). This was a two-year term to the NAHB Executive
Committee. In 1987/88, this association name John the Washington State Builder
of the Year, and he was nominated for the award again in 1992.
John also represented BIAW as a National Senior Director to the NAHB. In
addition, he also served as Chairman f the following: Single Family Custom
Committee, Research Committee, Small Volume, Senior Housing Council, National
Multi-Family council, and National Representative at NAHB. He is an advisor on
the Executive Committee as a Washington State National
representative (one for each state), and is currently a trustee on both
the NAHB commercial and multi-family councils and the Vice Chair of the
commercial builder’s committee. John is one of twelve builders who were
personally chosen by the President of NAHB to work on a task force requested by
the Bush Administration and funded by the Department of Energy called “Zero
Energy Homes,” and currently is serving on the National PATH Committee.
(Partnership of Advanced Technology for Housing) he is also a certified “PATH
Partner.” In his community, John was on the Board of Directors for the
Alzheimer’s Walk Association in Skagit County for three years and is a Trustee
on the Washington State Education Foundation/Political Participation. Most
recently John has been elected to serve a 6 year term as a Trustee of the NAHB
Research Center in Maryland.
Since 1995, John has been the Chairman of the Candidate Interview Committee for
the Republican Party in Skagit County and is currently Vice President of the
Burlington Rotary Club. John has also served on the Home Owner’s Warranty (HOW).
Council as President of it’s Board
of Directors and on it’s National Advisory Committee for the Northwest Region.
He is now serving on the Skagit County and City of Mt. Vernon Economic
Development Citizen Advisory Committee that is working on long range planning
for Skagit County and has served on the Home Energy Rating System for Energy
Efficient Mortgages within the Washington Sate Energy Committee. John has also
served on the Board of Directors for the Island Title Company for the Northwest
Region. John and Dottie received the National “Pacesetter Award 1995” for Management by Custom Home magazine. John received the National ACE (Award for Construction Excellence) presented by HOW in July 1992, for not only regional but also for the national award. He has been active as Committee Chairman for Troop 1 of the Mt. Vernon Boy Scouts and has sponsored numerous youth soccer and little league baseball teams. |
